What we do
- Annual recruiting for the Civil Grand Jury
- Training for the Grand Jury as requested; provide scholarships to attend classes conducted by the CGJA on writing reports.
- Educate the community about the important role of the Grand Jury, including:
- Draw attention to reports issued by the Grand Jury
- Follow up on agency responses to recommendations as private citizens, since the Grand Jury itself cannot follow up.
- If warranted, the ACCGJA may submit a Citizen Complaint Form to the Civil Grand Jury for potential investigation by a subsequent Grand Jury. As noted on the formal complaint form, “A complaint should only be submitted to the Grand Jury after all attempts to correct the situation have been fully explored. This may include but is not limited to appealing to a supervisor or department head and requesting intervention by the District Attorney or Board of Supervisors.” Therefore, the ACCGJA may use public information, communications, and meetings to urge agencies to comply with their agreed-upon recommendations and commitments.
- Implementation Review– ACCGJA tracks the progress of agency responses to recommendations and findings of the Grand Jury Reports. For example, we have implemented a database that tracks the status of recommendations https://acgrandjuryassn.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Alameda-County-tracking-summary.pdf
